India omit big names Tendulkar rested and Yuvraj dropped for Asia Cup

India have rested star batsman Sachin Tendulkar and dropped under-fire Yuvraj Singh from their 15-man squad for the Asia Cup.

Tendulkar, who has not played for India since February, was granted a request to be given more time off from international cricket.

"Tendulkar requested the board not to consider him for the Asia Cup as he wanted to spend time with his children in view of the hectic cricket season ahead," the Board of Control for Cricket in India stated.

Yuvraj has managed only 96 runs in five one-day internationals this year and has recently been criticised for an apparent lack of fitness.

The explosive batsman was rested along with a number of team-mates for the tri-series with Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

But while many of those who did not play in that competition have been recalled, Yuvraj has missed out again.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra are included again for the Asia Cup after missing the tri-series.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been given another chance after impressing in the tournament in Zimbabwe.

Batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also retain their place in the squad following the tournament, where India failed to reach the final.

The Asia Cup takes place in Dambulla from June 15 to 24.

India squad for Asia Cup: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain & wicketkeeper), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Pragyan Ojha, Ashok Dinda, Ravichandran Ashwin, Saurabh Tiwary.
